One euro has 100 cents in total. Every official euro member has the duty to issue coins. The only difference with the coins is the fact that the obverse are all unique from each other thus it is very easy to know from which region the coins are from. The bills are identical. It is important to know that the coins are readily accepted as legal tender throughout regardless of the region that they come from.

In Spain, the euro came as a replacement of the Peseta which was the currency in Spain. There are people in Spain who still use the currency to date and then convert it to the euro later on. The reason why people use the old currency is the fact that it is still very much available in the Spanish region.

When using Euros in stores, it is important to have smaller bills as the 500 ones will not be allowed in many stores thus causing an inconvenience to you. Carry with you alternate bills for a smooth time shopping.

When you are in Spain, do not shop expecting anyone to accept anything else other than Euros. You should also not expect anyone to change your currency at the stores. The restaurants and shops in the airports may be an exception to this rule. In most cases, these will allow US dollars but the exchange rate may be a little worse. It is advisable that you do your exchanges at the right places.

For all your exchanges, go to the bank. You will be at an advantage if you hold an account with the bank in question.
